An Evening Grosbeak is a Backyard Gift from Nature
The Evening Grosbeak, like its name suggests, generally visits gardens in the evening and usually only during winters every other year or so. This backyard gift is sure to catch your eye. The male has a black head, crown, wings, and tail. What makes it really eye catching is its yellow forehead and back. It also has some white coloring here and there and pink legs. The female is mostly grey and brown, although it does have white and some yellow markings in places.
One of the most interesting things about these natural gifts from nature is that the Evening Grosbeak travels in flocks at times. You’ll be amazed at the colorful blanket of yellow that swoops down on sunflowers when they’re hungry. Flocks of this bird can wipe out many sunflower plants in minutes.
Evening Grosbeaks will readily visit your bird feeder during the winter months. They often send their winters in urban areas in fact, especially if no major forests are nearby. They don’t have a very unique song, though—they don’t seem to have developed one.
