One look at a Mediterranean diet review and you realize this is not your mama’s diet! In fact, diet truly is a four letter word when it comes to the Mediterranean diet. It is really more a celebration of life, food, family, and good health. The plan, which was inspired by the people who live in the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, centers around fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, dairy, nuts, legumes, beans, healthy fat sources like olive oil and avocados, and even a glass of red wine. The lifestyle encourages hard physical work, family meals, and celebration. This eating plan is not about restriction, it’s about living your best life and experiencing the good health that goes along with it.

Before you switch how you approach eating, preparing mentally is an important first step. You are encouraged to think about your reasons for dieting. The best motivators are good health and enhanced self esteem. Think about what motivates you. Fitting into a dress for your class reunion won’t likely change your long-term eating habits. But feeling energetic, happy, and self-confident are more lasting reasons for change. Nothing is more motivating also than seeing progress. Try tracking all of the various changes you make, and then noting how it impacts you physically and mentally.

I am always looking for ways to organize my home and especially my kitchen. It seems I never have enough cabinet space and I’m certainly not thrilled when I see clutter building up on my counter tops. There are some things I like to keep handy of course, like my teapot on the stove, my corner canisters with our most-used treats and teas, my blender which I use constantly, and my vegetable juicer. I’ve managed to add a few slide out shelves to place my other small appliances in, plus I found a slanted shelf that is perfect for my spice bottles. Since I have a center island, I’ve decided to add a wrought iron oval pot rack above it to place my favorite cookware pieces on.

I like this hanging pot rack from Kinetic for both its style and its value. At about thirty-three inches long and seventeen inches wide it’s a perfect size for my kitchen. It comes in black or red and since my kitchen has quite a few red highlights, I’m going to buy the red one. It comes with one dozen hooks and can hold up to forty pounds, so it will easily hold the cookware pieces I need it to hold. Plus it will look great too!

I have a lot of cookware in my kitchen cabinets. Some of my favorites include my large hard-anodized stockpot that I uses for everything from soups to sauces and my slow cooker that I use for stews, chili and homemade beans. Another kitchen essential that I especially love is my new Rachael Ray Porcelain Enamel 12 Inch Skillet . It’s not just that it’s so durable and useful, but it looks fantastic too, and cleans up good as new every time I use it.

I use it for sauteing fresh vegetables, frying burgers, baking fish, and lots of other delicious meals too. The handy 12 inch size gives me plenty of room to make enough for the whole family. The beautiful bright orange enamel exterior and quality nonstick interior makes cleaning up so easy, which saves me time in the kitchen. It has a really comfortable silicone handle and it’s protected by a lifetime warranty – you can’t beat that! It’s no doubt that this is the best kitchen frying pan that I’ve ever owned. My sister loved it so much when she was here for a visit that I’ve decided to get her one as a gift!

A lot of us get by with all sorts of dishes to take our homemade meals on the go. Many of us wrap aluminum foil over our glass bakeware, place it in a bag and simply hope the dish doesn’t slide around the car too much on the way to a gathering. My friend does have a set of covered bakeware that she uses to take her meals and dips to different events, and that is a much better option than using foil. However the best bakeware that I came across for taking my meals on the go is this great Corningware Portable Bakeware set.

Now I can easily carry my favorite dish anywhere in this versatile CorningWare round portable bakeware. The set includes a sturdy 2.5 quart round dish, a clear plastic cover, a hot/cold pack, and a nylon carry bag. It comes in the stylish French White finish, so it looks great for serving as well. I just love CorningWare Ceramic Bakeware because the durable stoneware material can be used in the oven, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer. And it’s dishwasher safe for easy clean up too!

Avid outdoorsmen love to cook outdoors; that is a fact. Whether or not they are just outside on their patio or out in the woods, nothing beats a grilled meal. However sometimes when you are on the go it is difficult to find a grill or turn your campfire into an adequate grilling area. Carrying around odd shaped pans and trays is only a pain when there are more important things to have in your pack, yet carrying your grill with you is more burdensome and ruins all the fun. So the last resort is a portable grill, the best on the market – the Century Matchless Grill Stove.

Unlike most camping stoves which require matches or some sort of lighting mechanism, this grill has a matchless lighting system. Just push the button and it ignites. The surface is wide enough for grilling nearly anything, and it has a steel drip tray for cleaning and an easily removable grease tray if you do not want your food to be fast-food-esque. Not only is it extremely useful and durable, it is extremely easy to carry. A special handle is mounted onto the grill which only weighs sixteen pounds. This is a priceless asset to any outdoorsmen who loves grilling food but can not get the right mixture with a campfire. Take your grilling anywhere.

When I was a little girl, I’d spent Wednesday afternoons with my grandma. Looking back, I think it was just her way of giving my mom a little time to herself to run some errands without having to drag me along. Around 10 or so in the morning, Grandma would start cooking. One of my favorites was this lentil and vegetable soup with dumplings. I just loved that soup better than just about any other meal on this planet – and to be honest, I still feel about it this way.

In fact, I liked it so much that my grandmother started to call me dumpling. Both she and my mother would try other bean and lentil recipes, but the only one I would willingly eat was this particular lentil soup. Now I have a little girl of my own and she loves it just as much as I do. And while I’ve acquired a taste for other bean dishes, she also won’t touch any other dry bean, pea or lentil. Funny how things repeat themselves.

My kitchen has a lot of the basic amenities, but I find I am desperately jealous of people who have stove tops with built-in griddles. Weekend or holiday breakfasts and brunches are such a low key, fun time to reconnect with family and friends but when you can only make a couple of pancakes at a time in a conventional pan it does get tiresome when cooking for more than two. I decided to treat myself to a new double burner griddle so now I can quickly dish up large amounts of pancakes, eggs and sausage without dirtying every pan in the kitchen.

A double burner griddle is a griddle that, well, goes over two burners. It gives you about 10×19 inches of usable cook space, which is more than enough to dish up several servings of your favorite breakfast food at once. Mine has a durable non-stick surface (a must have for me with any griddle), sturdy handles, and is constructed of heavy-duty stainless steel. It’s also oven safe, in case you’d like to start a dish stove top and finish it in the oven. With this double burner griddle you’ll be able to eat your pancakes with your family, instead of standing at the stove slowly turning out one pancake at a time in a regular fry pan and skillet while everyone eats their breakfast!
